Smiths make it four from four vs Bristol Aeroplane

October 16, 2017

Smiths Rugby beat Bristol Aeroplane Company RFC 31-24 at Prince of Wales Stadium. This match had been rearranged from last week after the referee pulled up lame after 15 minutes with Smiths 12-0 up. After a smooth take off the home side hit some turbulence in a match of two halves.

Smiths made another fast start drawing penalties from BAC as the visitors struggled to keep with the pace of the game. Tries from Chris Mellon, James Irwin-Singer, Sam Cook and Jacob Lake, supplemented by two conversions by Will Pritchett, gave Smiths a 24-0 half time lead.

Initially the second half continued as the first had ended with quick hands to the left putting Mellon in for his second try converted by Pritchett. At 31-0 up Smiths should have been ready to kick on but BAC were able to make the most of a raft of Smiths mistakes and hit back with 4 tries of their own but ran out of time to make a full comeback.

Some of the excellent work done in the first half was masked by a disappointing last 30 minutes for Smiths but another bonus point win will go some way to keep their momentum going.

Smiths Hamsters played Ross on Wye 2nd XV at home and secured a 24-24 draw. After another 15 all draw away at Ross a couple of weeks ago the fans are clamouring for a deciding fixture!
